Boring Roommates [message #1351]

General Naked Post

I got my roommate assignment a month ago, and both my roommates have contacted me in someway (facebook, email, etc). Well, although my roommate seem like great people, they also seem to be nerds, no offense. I have no problem with them being smart and all, i just wanted some roommates that are well more into sports and going to frat parties and stuff like that. i realize i am being a dick, but still i am worried my roomates and I will not get along.

Speaking from experience, one thing I would like to tell you is that sometimes you won't get the roommates that you may have wanted. While they may be your roommates, they may not be friends that you hang out with at the same time.
Another thing you should know is that, being roommates doesn't require you (or force you) to hang out and attend parties or school events (or all that other jazz) together. Even while having roommates, you may find that some of your hall mates share the same likes in parties that you have.
The last important thing I would say is that you must learn to co-exist with them. They don't have to be best friends with you or anything like that, but that doesn't mean you straight out dislike them if they don't appeal to your likes. Co-existing with people (in my opinion) is less stress than trying to be their friend.

A final thing...you never know how your roommates will be until you actually live with them in person. Maybe they enjoy parties as much as doing their work or something, you never know. Don't be afraid to talk to them and get to know them. Try not to establish an assumption based on what you may see or think of them now, because it will change down the line. Hopefully, This helps you. I also hope your move-in day is a good one also.

Well, last year I had a similar experience, but the opposite. I was the nerd and she was the partier. At first we were both thinking we weren't going to get along, but because we found friends besides each other we stayed out of one another's way better. Our schedules were so different we almost never saw each other. Actually, I don't think I could tolerate a roommate that's more like me. My advise is don't worry about getting along with your roommate assignments to much, participate in activities and organizations, etc, and make other friends so you don't have to be around your roommate so much...that's what I did and it went great Razz
