Takes The Risk And
Rekindles Old Dutch Flame
Hi
Harlan,
I'm
48 years old, and I met the great love of my life when I was in
college. He was Dutch, but we spent a good part of two summers
together (one summer in the U.S., the other in Holland). He wanted
to be an actor, and it would have been much more difficult for
him to break into that over here. I would have moved to Holland
to be with him, but my Dutch wasn't good enough to get a job.
So we drifted apart.
Throughout
the years, I've wondered how things had turned out for him. I've
searched a few times, but I couldn't find anything about him.
But when I tried again a few days ago, I found him! He's active
with a theater group, performing and teaching classes, and he
has also done some television. The theater group had a contact
link. I thought about some of the things you've written recently
about taking risks. I left a note in Dutch saying that I was happy
for his success and wanted to say hello. Two days later, I got
a long e-mail from him! He was very surprised to hear from me
after all this time, and he seemed happy about it as well. We've
exchanged a few e-mails since then and gotten started on catching
up. I'm divorced with two kids, but he has never married. If nothing
else, I'm so happy that I had the chance to tell him, "I've always
hoped that you had found someone who loved you as much as I did."
I want to thank you for reminding me how important it is to take
chances, to reach out and to let someone else know we care.
Hugs From a Friend
Hi
Hugs From a Friend,
That's
awesome. You're welcome.
Even
if your Dutchman didn't respond to you favorably, taking The Risk
would have been considered a success. But the fact that he's still
single and shows interest is even more interesting. You know,
it's never too late to become fluent in Dutch ...
