REJECTION DIARY:
Best Friend Rejection

Dear Harlan,

What do you do if your best friend hates you because you decided to speak your mind about a problem?

Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

One approach is to just stop saying what you think. For example, when shopping with your best friend, and she tries on pants that are so tight that you can see dimples, silently look the other way. When you see your best friend's significant other cheating, pretend it never happened and keep quiet. If you see your best friend doing drugs, sleeping around and getting pregnant over and over again, just hum quietly to yourself and bite your lip. Or you can BE a best friend and say what needs to be said. If you don't, who will?

This friend needs a best friend like you. If your friend can't see it, then say it, e-mail it and write it in a letter and mail it. Let your friend know that you're only being honest out of love (assuming this is true). If your friend doesn't love hearing the truth, find a new friend.
