REJECTION DIARY:

One Risk, One Call,
One Long Honeymoon

Dear Harlan,

I enjoy your column and wanted to add my story about taking risks: At the age of 19, I got married. It lasted about five years, and then we divorced. We went our separate ways for 40 years. Then on an impulse, I located him via the phone. Just before I hung up, I said "I still love you!" The phone rang right back, and he said, "If you mean that, I'm on my way to Phoenix." A month later we remarried. Now, in our 80s, we are on a constant honeymoon. If I had not picked up the phone and had instead worried about rejection, it would never have happened.

A Great Call

Dear Great Call,

That is one looong honeymoon. I just hope you're not still staying at a hotel (although you could get a lot of miles if you were on a rewards program).

Thanks for the great story. But let's say that he hadn't called you back. While it would have been sad, at least you could have slept at night knowing that you had put yourself out there. And that's a great way to sleep - but even better is sleeping with him by your side.
